PURPOSE * SUCCESS STORIES

Our residents share the fact that certain hardships have delayed their dreams. With hard work and perseverance, the staff at Pinellas Village believes those dreams can come true…and we give our residents the strength and encouragement to realize that they can reach for the stars! Nobody can explain Pinellas Village like the single parents who have taken advantage of our program.

Success By the Numbers

As of January, 2008 the following numbers indicate the success of Pinellas Village:
320 - Residents who received a specialized certificate or degree
164 - Residents who found full-time employment in their field after completing their final educational goal
98 - Residents who continued their education after leaving Pinellas Village
84 - Residents who purchased a home after leaving Pinellas Village

Here are some excerpts of their testimonials:

“I grew up in a home that was for the most part very dysfunctional and a war zone where my sister and I were the weapons of choice by our Mom. In my home, my sister and I were not shown or taught a health anything. This lead to a life of self-destruction and hurtful, hateful, and violent relationships. I ended up in an unhealthy marriage which I left in 1999. I received my LPN license in Pennsylvania and moved in with family in Florida. I was facing the very real possibility of being homeless with my boys, and I found Pinellas Village in 2002. I felt so lost and afraid when I first arrived here. I felt like a huge disappointment. Within two months, I found a job at the hospital where I still work. Pinellas Village has given our family so much: backpacks and school supplies for my boys, safe Halloween festivities, turkeys and other food items for Thanksgiving, Christmas gifts for every child and parent, FREE life skill and parenting classes, and a SAFE HOME. They have helped me with school loans. From the staff at Pinellas Village, I learned that I am worthy to be loved and adored. Though there will always be something to knock you down in life, there will always be someone to catch you. And if you do happen to fall down, there will always be someone to help you up. Someone who will not judge you. Someone who you know is not going to treat you with shame and disappointment but rather with love, kindness, and a true deep concern. I am a good mom and a good person. I am the one who has truly and deeply been blessed with the gift of someone who cares…and that has given me the strength to demand that I am someone to be treated with all the love and respect I truly do deserve. For that and all the lessons learned here at Pinellas Village, I will be eternally grateful.”Gloria, mother of 2 boys

“It takes a village to raise a child”…this is a quote that defines Pinellas Village. The hard work and dedication from the entire staff is incredible. I’ve been here for two months and want to thank you for everything you do. You’re surely appreciated.”
Yvette, mother of 1 daughter and 1 son

“I want everyone to know about the place where I live. Pinellas Village was created to help single parents find their way. They have child care services, case managers and a program directed toward self-sufficiency. How can you go wrong with this community? I moved to Pinellas Village in 2003, looking for a safe place to live for my children and me after separating from my husband and returning to school. What did I expect? Nothing. What did I receive? Everything! Helpful case managers, life skill classes, parenting classes, activities for children and parents, fundraisers for parties, and more. I absorbed everything that was offered to me. I became a better parent and a better citizen. It helped me to focus on my goals for the future. Thank you to everyone who developed Pinellas Village. Thank you to everyone who gave donations and volunteered their time and services. Thank you to everyone who works there. I stand up and shout that Pinellas Village is a community I believe in ! Everyone should have the opportunity to encounter a community such as this.” Melissa, mother of 3 daughters

“When I think of Pinellas Village, I think of this amazing program that’s sole purpose is to help single-parent families. The staff lets us all know that we can make something of our lives and that we don’t have to kneel down and become a statistic just because we are single parents. I can remember the first time I came to Pinellas Village. I had a very bleak idea of what my future would be like. I lacked the confidence in myself to want more in life. The staff changed my ideas and let me know that I can do everything in life that I want to do. Pinellas Village lets us know that we can pull ourselves up by giving us hope.    Yolanda, mother of 1 daughter
